5 Small Habits that Help me Stay Organized

Small things add up. And these 5 habits truly do make me feel like I have my life put together, even when I don’t actually have my life together…

When I was in school, my classmates would always ask me how I would stay so organized. They would see my digital planner and my Notion setup and think “that girl’s got life figured out”. But in reality my life was still a mess… but there are a few small habits that do make me feel more organized. And sometimes feeling more organized is the key to being more organized. Fake it ‘til you make it, am I right?

Making my Bed EVERY morning

I make my bed every morning. No exception. First of all, it makes my bed seem so much cleaner and second, APPARENTLY there is a link between making your bed and being a successful person. I’m not sure how true that second one is. But hey, I am NOT risking it. Making your bed in the morning is a simple way to start the day on a win and it set’s the tone for the day.

Planning! Planning! Planning!

I’ll be honest, I probably over-plan my life. I have my monthly plan, weekly plan, daily plan, social media plan, my master to do list and even a plan for each specific project. But it also means I know exactly what I am doing — or what I should be doing. The most important thing about planning is to keep it realistic. Don’t add too many things to your daily to do list or add in too many plans with friends (especially if you are a homebody like me lol). When I have a solid and realistic plan, it makes me feel less overwhelmed and I actually get stuff done.

The 10-minute tidy

This is a new habit that I am still working on building. But taking 10 minutes out of my day, everyday to clean my bedroom has been really helpful. It helps keep my room clean and also makes my weekly reset cleaning much quicker. Plus I feel like I don’t sleep as well when my room is messy so I also feel like i am sleeping — when I actually do take 10 minutes to clean my room.

Keeping a go-to self care ritual

Self care is a big priority for me and it is something that I schedule most days of the week. My go-to self care ritual is making a cup of tea, having a hot bath then reading before bed (and having an early night). One of my resolutions was to put myself first more this year and having routine self care nights have been a big part of helping achieve this goal. Your go-to self care ritual can be what ever you want it to be as long as it is something you find relaxing and more importantly, something you enjoy.

Filling up my water cup before bed

This one sounds a bit weird, but if i’m being honest, if I didn’t do this I would be so dehydrated. I’ll be the first person to admit that I do not drink enough water but ever since I started filling up my 40oz cup before bed, I now know that I am drinking at least 40oz of water a day. And yes, I know that, that is still not enough water but it’s better than the alternative — only drinking coffee. I’m making baby steps here, plus over the past few months I’ve gotten better at drinking more water.

These small habits do make a big difference in my day! Reminder: having your life organized is not about doing everything, it’s about taking small steps that make big differences and doing things that make you feel grounded. I hope this post gives you some inspiration to find some new habits that make you feel more organized!
